Group Therapy at PBJ Connections
PATASKALA, OH (March 15, 2010):
PBJ Connections is starting our spring series of group therapy sessions focusing on appropriate communication skills, anger management, at-risk behavior avoidance, and grief related issues.
- Communications Skills Group A - This group is for middle school aged girls that have communication skills deficits. Through horse activities chosen specifically for the group, the girls work on how to communicate with peers, how to read body language, and appropriate self-controls. Begins Monday March 15th at 4:30 pm and runs for 10 weeks.
- Communications Skills Group B - This group is for middle school aged boys that have communication skills deficits. Through horse activities chosen specifically for the group, the boys work on how to communicate with peers, how to read body language, and appropriate self-controls. Begins Monday March 15th at 6:30 pm and runs for 10 weeks
- Loss and Emotional Management - This group is for high school aged girls and focuses on healthy emotional expression in situations of loss. Begins Wednesday March 17th at 6:00 pm and runs for 10 weeks.
- Anger Management - This group is for high school aged boys and deals with healthy expression of emotions. Begins Thursday March 18th at 4:00 PM and runs for 10 weeks.
Through the group process, the horses provide a means to explore and practice appropriate interactions with peers and adults. Sessions take place in the barn and all sessions are facilitated by a licensed social worker and a certified horse professional who are assisted by skilled volunteers. All staff have undergone Ohio BCI background checks.
Sessions will be mostly non-riding but will include hands-on experiences with horses.
Cost is $660 for new clients and $600 for returning clients. Through the generosity of our funders, including the Robert J. McKeever Fund of the Columbus Foundation, we have scholarships available for families who qualify. The financial aid application process is easy and we encourage families to apply.
PBJ Connections is a local 501(c)3 organization that provides equine-assisted psychotherapy to area at-risk youth and their families. Equine-assisted psychotherapy has a long history of success at helping youths who are at risk of falling through society's safety nets. PBJ Connections Inc. was founded as a 501(c) 3 charity in October of 2006 and has been serving area families since that time.
