Are you in the Christmas spirit? Maybe it is our warm weather in Ohio this year. Maybe it is what is on the news. Maybe it is just the energy of the universe. But I keep hearing from people, “It doesn’t feel like Christmas this year!”
I think when it is one of those years where we are struggling to get into the decorating and present buying, it helps to remember this: Christmas is about compassion. You can avoid much of the expense, most of the frenzy and all of the unpleasant parts of the holidays just by showing compassion to others. Start with your family and close friends. Then try it with people you don’t know. All it takes is paying it forward, spending time with someone who needs companionship or holding someone’s hand while they cry. That is compassion, and that is what the holidays are all about.
