What’s the Word?

Last night the question came up, “How DO we help the world be more positive?” My answer was that it just has to come from within. There has always been and always will be a great deal of negativity in the world. There always has been and always will be a great deal of positivity in the world as well. It just depends on what we chose to focus on.

There is this idea in yoga that you set an intention for your practice. This can be a word or statement that you put intentionally into your practice. This idea can spread to the larger intentionality of your day, too. You can set out each morning with a word, or phrase, for the day and very purposefully repeat that word to yourself. We unintentionally do this all the time when we watch the news or have a rough day. If you are paying attention you will notice how many times in a day you use the word, “annoying” or “frustrating” or “tired” or “scared”. Unintentionally focusing on these words makes them very powerful and consuming to us as individuals and therefore as a society.

Instead, try choosing a word that you would LIKE to focus on and use throughout your day. “Thank you” or “peaceful” or “patience” or “love” or “energy” or….well, you get the idea.

What’s your word?
